21 Solved in '21 : Day 12 : Aryndel Castro

24-year-old Aryndel Castro disappeared from his home in Bridgeport, CT in September of 2013. He was last seen alive on September 19th. When she didn’t hear from him, Aryndel’s mother reported him missing, but his whereabouts remained unknown.

When he didn’t show up by the following Spring, the Bridgeport Police involved the homicide department. As this case has yet to go to trial, not much is publicly available about the investigation from here.

On December 8, 2021, a man was arrested in connection to Aryndel’s disappearance. This man is accused of having murdered Aryndel with the assistance of a co-conspirator. His co-conspirator was arrested December 7th in South Carolina.

On December 9, 2021, Bridgeport police released a statement that detectives were able to exhume the body of a man they believed to be Aryndel Castro. The body was discovered buried five feet deep in the crawl space of a detached garage on Noble Avenue. This statement said that “strong evidence” suggests the two men murdered Aryndel on Sept. 22, 2013 before traveling to Home Depot to purchase cleaning supplies, in what was described by police as an “elaborate clean-up effort.”

The men then rented a van on two separate occasions, transporting Aryndel’s body multiple times following his murder. One of the men involved has been partially cooperative with police in this case, having insisted since 2014 that he witnessed the other man kill Aryndel and helped to bury his body. This particular man had just finished serving a 25-year prison sentence in 2013 for a home invasion in New Canaan that left 63-year-old Ann Viner dead in her swimming pool.

The alleged killer of Aryndel led authorities to his body. Both men have been charged with murder.

Aryndel was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, but moved with his family to the Bridgeport, Connecticut area at a young age. He was one of six children. Aryndel Castro was a jack of all trades and a huge source of support for his family, who knew they could count on him for anything. He spent a great deal of his time with them. His absence has not gone unnoticed, and while the resolution of Aryndel’s disappearance and death has offered answers, in his obituary, his family stated, “The reality of his passing is something we never wanted to confront, but knowing he is finally at rest, we know He is in God’s loving arms.”
